I Am Privileged
I live a life of constant privilege. Not only am I white, not only am I seen as a straight cisgender man, but my entire intersectionality is over-privileged. I feel responsible for the power that comes with this, so I try to use my voice for love, hope, and peace, because I’m able to, and because I feel the world needs more of this.
The world also needs allies to speak out for those who have been silenced throughout history. I could never understand how it feels to live in a system that so clearly devalues your life, and to feel this every single day. I can only listen, learn, and try to use my voice to help others be heard. I can’t keep avoiding these issues so many are facing for the sake of only spreading positivity. I have to start speaking out for others on how I really feel.
Who Am I?
It’s important to ask yourself. Who are you? You’re the only one who experiences life like you. Experiences shape views of what’s right, real and true.
We all have a story. It’s shaped who we feel we are, and it continues through this moment. In this moment, right now, the vision of who we are shapes the story we have yet to experience. I love hearing the stories of others, so in less than 1,000 words, here’s mine:
What It Means To Dream
I dream in my sleep. How does it feel so real? One time I realized I was dreaming and decided to fly. I could feel the sun’s warmth, hear the air flow, and see thousands below living their dreamy lives. As my body rests, my mind explores.
My dream means everything to me. It’s constantly changing, evolving, growing. I love thinking about what it could be, but I’ll only know in time. For now it fills me with hope, through thoughts I’m thankful for and feelings I need to succeed. My dream is my future; your future is your dream. Our dreams will have an impact that outlives us all.
Into the Unfamiliar
In this moment of uncertainty we watch wild waves while waiting by the water. The tide is quickly rising as we feel the waves calling, so we decide to venture into the unfamiliar. As we take our first step in, the frigid feeling fires from foot to brain, saying step back and walk towards comfort. If self-doubt rushes through with the first wave’s sharp splash, your mindset matters most. Does discomfort discourage you from diving into your dreams, or are you determined to discover your destiny?
